Abstract:

Background & Aim : Hyperglycemia and hyperglycorrha ch ia are common associations of febrile seizures. Rapid release of cortisol and adrenaline after seizures as a stress reaction induces elevated glucose concentration. During fever release of interleukin-1 beta, an endogenous pyrogenic cytokine, inhibits insulin release and stimulates the secretion of cortisol. This may explain the correlation between CSF glucose concentration and body temperature in the present report . The purpose of our study was to assess the correlation between acetaminophen consumption and CSF glucose in febrile convulsion.   Patients and Method : In this cross-sectional analytic study ,we analyzed CSF samples taken from 63 children with febrile convulsion whose ages ranged from 3 to18 months. Comaprisons between the mean CSF glucose concentrations in the children who had taken and not taken acetaminophen within 6 hours before convulsion were made using Students' t-test and Mann-whitney test.   Results: CSF glucose levels were significantly higher (P =0. . 0001) in children who had not taken acetaminophen (82±8 mg/dL, n =) as compared with children who had taken acetaminophen (53±4 mg/dL, n=).   Conclusion: The use of acetaminophen decreases CSF glucose concentration in febrile convulsive children.

تعیین ارتباط سطح روی مایع مغزی- نخاعی با انواع تب تشنج

Background & Aims: Febrile convulsion is one of the most common causes of hospitalization of children in pediatric wards. The exact pathogenesis of seizure is not fully understood but involves several factors like genetic predisposition, changes in the levels of neurotransmitters, and some trace elements. The present study was conducted to evaluate the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) zinc (Zn) level...

مقایسه LDH مایع مغزی ـ نخاعی در کودکان مبتلا به تب و تشنج ساده با کمپلکس

Background & Aim: The levels of lactic dehydrogenase(LDH) in the cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) have been used to evaluate a variety of neurologic disorders. However, few studies have been performed on CSF LDH in febrile convulsion patients. The aim of this study is to compare CSF LDH in children with simple and complex febrile convulsion.   Patients and Method: In this study, which was prospectiv...
